Polar Bear Attack At Zoo – Pics and video of a polar bear attack at the Berlin Zoo Friday when a woman climbed the fence and jumped into the moat during feeding time.

The polar bear attack at the zoo began after she plunged into the moat, swam directly toward the bears, and then one adult bear immediately began biting her and tearing at her clothes, police said.

Zoo workers tossed rescue rings toward the woman to hoist her out and distract polar bears swimming nearby, said Goerg Gebhard, a Berlin police officer.
At one point the woman fell back into the water and was grabbed by another bear before she was eventually hoisted to safety.

“They saved her life,” Gebhard told reporters.
The woman suffered severe lacerations and was being treated at a hospital, police said.
It’s unclear why the woman entered the bear habitat, but police said she apparently wanted to “play” with the polar bears.
The Berlin Zoo is home to Knut, the famously cuddly polar bear cub whose cute photos captivated the nation last year.
Police issued the woman a citation for trespassing.
