Pottery Barn Crib Recall - Thousands of drop-side cribs from retailer Pottery Barn Kids are being recalled over infant safety concerns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the 82,000 cribs in the Pottery Barn crib recall could pose a suffocation or entrapment risk to young children because of faulty hardware on the drop-side rail causing it to detach unexpectedly.

When that happens, it can create a dangerous “V”-like gap between the mattress and side rail where a baby can get caught and suffocate or strangle.

The recall involves all Pottery Barn Kids drop-side cribs regardless of model number.

CPSC says there have been 36 reports of drop-side rails that have malfunctioned or detached.

Seven children sustained minor injuries when they fell out of the cribs or got their legs caught between the mattress and side rail.

CPSC urges parents to immediately stop using the cribs.

Pottery Barn Kids is offering free kits to immobilize the drop-side rail.

Drop-side cribs in other recalls have been blamed in the deaths of at least 32 infants and toddlers since 2000 and are suspected in another 14 infant fatalities.

In the past five years, more than 9 million drop-side cribs have been recalled, including about 2 million recalled last month from Evenflo, Delta Enterprise Corp. and several other companies.

And that’s the latest from Action News about the Pottery Barn Crib Recall.
