New Zealands Quake
New Zealands Quake – Amidst the aftermath of New Zealand’s quake, it seemed that the Christchurch founder has made known his message to the modern people.
Two time capsules were found by rescuers in the plinth of Christchurch founder’s statue on March 1, exactly one week after the 6.3 magnitude quake.
The intriguing items included a glass bottle containing a rolled-up parchment and a metal cylinder.
Only two words were visible on the parchment “by” and “erected”. Reports said that those items appeared to have been buried beneath the bronze statue of John Robert Godley.
The capsules were immediately handed to the city Mayor Bob Parker, and were turned over to Christchurch Museum.
Museum director Anthony Wright and his team are now in-charge to unfurl and examine the items’ details, as humidity-controlled environment is needed to protect the items from damage.
Mayor Parker believed that the capsules may contain documents outlining Godley’s vision for the city of Christchurch. Despite sad news of the earthquake, the city mayor said that the discovery is timely because it will help yield an inspiration to his people.
“It seems almost providential that they have come to light now to provide the inspiration we need in this most difficult time,” told the mayor.
The statue of the Irishman was erected in 1867 and moved in 1933.
After all, the discovery of two capsules has somehow reduced the throbbing emotions of the people affected by the New Zealand’s quake.
